You can't take a trip to the Olympic Peninsula and not expect to get rained on at least once. Well, it absolutely poured on us last Wednesday. Luckily, that was the one morning that Justin's parents had a cabin with a kitchen; so we all crowded into their cabin for a pancake breakfast. We had planned to take a family photo that day before Drew, Jacquie and Lola left to return home, but because of all the rain we decided to reschedule for later in the week.
So what to do when it rains on your beach vacation? You go the rain forest of course! The kids did not think much of this idea and wanted to stay indoors and play board games all day, but we overruled them. We all would have gone stir crazy before the day was up. Once we got there I think they enjoyed themselves. Brynne and Barrett especially had fun crawling under the giant tree roots. The scenery really looks almost other worldly or like something straight out of Dr. Seuss because of all the moss and epiphytes (my new word of the week which means air plants).
Barrett refused to take off his pajamas for most of the week. It's quickly become a habit. He hasn't worn normal clothes since Saturday; so you'll notice in the photos that he's in his pajamas with a fleece jacket on top. I guess he favors comfort over style.

Brynne's jacket wasn't waterproof so she got
to use Papa's huge umbrella.

Justin and Barrett strolling in the rain.
Notice the red pajama bottoms.

Everything is green. Even the air looks tinged with it.

Blythe and Emma posing in front of an
ancient moss covered maple tree.

This photo is the one that looks
like it's straight out of Dr. Seuss.

Brynne crouching under one giant tree.

An extremely happy Barrett walking under the
giant tree roots. It would make a great fort.
