The year was the first time that participation in the school Science Fair was mandatory for Blythe. Since Blythe was participating, Brynne wanted to as well, so I signed them both up. I don't know what other people's lives are like, but we had a really hard time finding time to squeeze in two science projects with about 3 weeks notice into Blythe's surgery, swim lessons, piano lessons, activity days, etc. I had to do science fair in the 6th and 8th grades. 4th grade seems a bit young to me. Both the girls needed a lot of help with their projects. After seeing all the other projects I suspect we helped too much. Oh well.

Brynne by her rock collection.

Brynne loves rocks and is always picking up rocks on hikes and bringing them home. I have a small trash can I keep in the garage where most of Brynne's rocks end up for storage. Otherwise they would take over my house. One of her favorite things to do in Moab is to visit the rock shop and pick out a new rock or mineral. Some of her collection we did purchase, but some we found, such as the copper from Alta. Justin was worried that a kid might walk off with a specimen or two so he quickly fashioned this display case for Brynne. He did a great job with materials he had on hand. All he had to purchase was the plexiglass. He also did most of the work identifying the rocks and even bought a guide to "Minerals, Rocks and Fossils."

I have to laugh because I relate. I suspect I have too much involvement in my kids projects too. Emma is a rock lover as well. It is not unusal to find a pebble or two in her pants pockets during the laundry.
great job girls! both projects were amazing.
