California

We spent most of last week in California for spring break.  We drove down on Monday and met Dan and Mia at the beach around 8:30 p.m., where Dan's birthday party was in full swing.  He turned 27, which makes me feel old.  They built a fire on the beach and we roasted marshmallows and made s'mores.  It was the perfect ending to a long day in the car.  I think kids may have enjoyed running from the incoming tide more than the s'mores even.  Miraculously, Barrett was the only one who got wet.  Dan and Mia were very kind to put us up for the night, even though Dan had a final the next day.  We couldn't truly appreciate their back yard when we arrived after dark, but how wonderful it was the next morning to wake up to discover this. . . .

Beautifully manicured back yard.
Notice the lanterns hanging in the tree.

A view of the ocean!!!

Fun bed of succulents.

More succulents and a beautiful fountain.

This is their covered patio with their front door that
enters into their funky bedroom.  They rent a walk-out
basement apartment and a cute family with three
little kids lives above them.  They have their bed
on a raised platform to make use of otherwise, unusable
space.  It's a great idea, Dan just has to be careful not
to bump his head.

After a quick breakfast of toast and grapes we packed up our overnight bag and headed to Anaheim for our first day at Disneyland!

that place is so pretty. just like you said, coming from all the cold, dirty snow and brown everywhere, it seemed like paradise.
