I'm sure that all kids have some sort of quirk but sometimes it seems like my kids have more than their fair share. Blythe's all seem to relate to clothing. She will only wear ankle socks. Socks that have to be folded over or pulled up at all are a no go, unless they are knee socks and she is wearing a skirt. She went through a phase when she was 2 where she wanted her socks loose, but her shoes tight. It made no sense. She still would rather wear a pair of shoes that are slightly too small than slightly too big.
The quirk that is driving me crazy at the moment has to do with her pants. She goes absolutely nuts if the hem of her pants touch the tops of her feet. Every time I buy her some new pants they have to go to Grandma's house first to be hemmed up. The last 2 pairs didn't get hemmed short enough for Blythe and she has been refusing to wear them. You would think that we could just cuff her pants be done with it, but this is not an acceptable option. She has one other pair of cute brown pants from The Gap that I decided didn't need hemming because they fit her perfectly. When she rejected both clean pairs of jeans today I told her she had to wear the brown pants. She started throwing a fit, so I had to threaten to ground her for two weeks, then I went downstairs so she could make her decision. She finally came downstairs wearing the offending pants with her high heeled black boots. Definitely not the footwear I would have chosen, but at least she had the pants on. She was even remarkably in a good mood.
I keep telling Blythe that she was born in the wrong decade. She should have been born in the 70's like me so that she could have lived through the wonders of pegged pant legs. I've been so frustrated with her refusing to wear half of her pants that I've even shown her how to peg her pants and suggested that she try to start a new fashion trend. For those of you who may have forgotten or are too young to remember pegged pants, I've included a photo of me when I was 16 wearing some very attractively pegged pants. Notice how far my pants are from the tops of my feet. Blythe is going to be very jealous when I show her this photo as soon as she gets home from school. By the way that's my first car that I'm standing next to.

In other news, Barrett has been using the potty this week (Yay!) and has even been wearing undies, which leads to a newly developed quirk. He's insisting on wearing his underwear backwards. It looks uncomfortable to me, but doesn't seem to bother him. I can kind of understand why he would want to wear the undies that only have a design on the rear backwards because that's the only way he can see the picture. However he's even wearing the ones with the designs all over them backwards too and cannot be talked out of it. I'm not going to include a photo of the undies, but I am including a photo of him wearing 3 pairs of Cars pajamas at the same time. This is probably not the strangest fetish but I thought it was funny. It's not a great photo because I didn't realize the flash wasn't on, but I decided it would do.
So far Brynne's major quirk relating to clothing was that at the age of 2.5 she decided she would only wear dresses or skirts. This lasted until half way through Kindergarten last year when she decided to mostly wear pants. She also refuses to wear tights that have the seam at the end of the toes as opposed to the seam on top of the toes. I can't figure this one out because she wore tights every day from October through May for 3 years without any problems. So that's my vent for today. Thanks for listening.

So funny! We've had a few of those. Zach would only wear shorts for like 2 years. t-shirts only as well. no collars or buttons. (good thing it's arizona) and nick would insist on buttoning all his shirts up to the top. We're pretty much past that now. I threw an 80's party for john last august. I pegged my pants. pretty rad if I do say so myself. (loved the picture by the way)
What cute kids! I love how all of us arrive on earth with personality already in place.
How would Blythe feel about double-scrunched, brightly-colored socks? That's another 80s-girl test! :)
